The Wonderful Skin Benefits of Honeysuckle Essential Oil

The sweet and calming fragrance of Honeysuckle is something many of us experienced as kids. Its beautiful sweet aroma brings me back to my childhood. I have incorporated it into my Flor and Celestial fragrances.

Honeysuckle essential oil is excellent for aromatherapy and skin care. It is known for its ability to protect and nourish the skin. It helps to draw blood to the surface of the skin, which promotes the growth of new cells and a rejuvenated look which helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and age spots.

Due to its powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, Honeysuckle oil works wonders to relieve skin rashes, poison ivy and blemishes. It soothes inflamed skin, eliminates pigmentation, and exfoliates your pores to reduce symptoms of acne. It is also relieves minor burns and sunburn. It can help with symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and other unsightly inflammatory skin conditions including scrapes and cuts. It protects skin wounds from infection, due to its antibacterial properties.

In addition to skin benefits, Honeysuckle also helps to soothe headaches, cleanse and detoxify, boost the immune system, protect against viral and bacterial infections (including bladder infections), support the respiratory system, balance blood sugar levels, reduce pain and inflammation and boost hair health. Honeysuckle is considered very safe to use. However, if an individual happens to be allergic to honeysuckle, it could cause a rash.

Honeysuckle essential oil is obtained from the flowers of the honeysuckle plant which ranges in color from yellow to orange to bright red. It has been used for over 1,400 years in the traditional medicine system of China. It  contains Quercetin, Vitamin C, Potassium and other nutrients, including antioxidants.

Honeysuckle oil is used via inhalation and topically in the form of cosmetics, bath and body products, exfoliating scrubs and massage oils. The impressive range of health benefits is attributed to the rich supply of Quercetin, Vitamin C, Potassium and other critical nutrients, as well as numerous other antioxidants.

Indigo Healing Oils includes honeysuckle essential oil in the all natural FLOR fragrance. Honeysuckle is combined with vanilla, grapefruit, ylang ylang, lemongrass and geranium. This combination is beautiful and instantly soothes your stress. It comes in a variety of products!

Indigo Healing Oils also includes honeysuckle essential oil in the all natural CELESTIAL fragrance. Honeysuckle is combined with Roman Chamomile and French Lavender. This combination is just heavenly and instantly soothes your nerves and uplifts your mood. It comes in a variety of products!

See details below on the One of a Kind - Crystal Infused - Indigo Healing Oils - Hair Growth Oil product, including Before and After pics, and applicable studies.

Before and After Using Indigo Healing Oils - Hair Growth Oil

This is my client. These are original untouched photos.

FEBRUARY 1ST, 2018

AFTER 2 MONTHS DAILY USE
MAY 5, 2018

Not only is the bald spot almost filled in, the hair is growing in darker. He does NOT color his hair. You will notice that the longer hair still has grey in it. But the NEW hair growing in is black.

Studies show Essential Oils are Safe and Effective

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) conducted a study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of essential oils for hair growth. Eighty-six patients were divided randomly into 2 groups. The active group massaged essential oils (thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood) in a mixture of carrier oils (jojoba and grapeseed) into their scalp daily. The control group used only carrier oils for their massage (also daily). The results showed aromatherapy to be a safe and effective treatment for alopecia areata. Treatment with these essential oils was significantly more effective than treatment with the carrier oil alone.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9828867

The following study found that Peppermint Essential Oil significantly promoted hair growth compared to SA (Saline) and JO (Jojoba Oil), even faster than MXD (Minoxidil).
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4289931/
Note: Minoxidil is far more expensive than Indigo Healing Oils Hair Growth Oil, and has some serious side effects:

About Alopecia

There are typically four main causes of hair loss:
  • Heredity (family history)
  • Hormonal changes
  • Medical conditions
  • Medications

The medical term for a loss of hair is alopecia, and there are two main types.
1. Alopecia Areata is when the your body’s immune system attacks the hair follicles, causing your hair to fall out.
2. Androgenetic Alopecia is an inherited hair condition in which there is hair thinning and then it eventually falls out. This is a hormone-related hair loss known as male or female pattern baldness.  Hormonal changes and imbalances that affect hair growth can be due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause as well as thyroid problems. The good news is that hormone-related hair loss may be only temporary. Androgenetic Alopecia is caused by an imbalance in the hormones called androgens. The three types of androgen hormones are testosterone, androstenedione and dihydrotestosterone, more commonly known as DHT.

In a clinical study in which a significant percentage of participants grew back various amounts of hair, the active group massaged Thyme, Rosemary, Lavender, and Cedarwood in a mixture of carrier oils (jojoba and grapeseed) into their scalp daily for 7 months.  The results show aromatherapy to be a safe and effective treatment for alopecia areata. Treatment with these essential oils was significantly more effective than treatment with the carrier oil alone.

Incidently, Doctor Oz had a show on hair loss and never mentioned Essential Oils. He referred to the American Hair Loss association. That organization claims that 90% of hair growth treatments do not work on their website - BUT they do NOT mention essential oils anywhere on their site. They are completely ignoring the natural plant therapies and focusing on big drug companies.

The Indigo Healing Oils (Copyrighted) Hair Growth formula is a powerful and completely safe and natural hair growth formula that not only stimulates hair follicles to grow hair more quickly and effectively, it may also help to restore your natural hair color and prevent grey hair. It includes 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils that support follicle health and prevention of grey hair. This blend of powerful essential oils is infused with healing crystals that also help with hair growth (see details below).

Ingredients:
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Australian Tea Tree, Peppermint, Texas Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Thyme, Spanish Rosemary and Spikenard.
All essential oils used are 100% pure, undiluted and infused with healing crystals (amethyst, carnelian and moonstone). The coconut and castor oils are carrier oils that have added benefits for your hair health and growth.

Instructions:

Simply spray on your scalp and massage into your entire scalp.
Leave on for 2 hours or longer if possible. It can also be left on overnight before showering. Shampoo and condition as usual.
If you like, you can just leave this in throughout the day if you spray lightly. It will work better if you apply it at night and shampoo it out in the morning. This gives the oils plenty of time to work. Try to use it daily and be consistent for best results.

Lifestyle Recommendations:

Reduce Emotional Stress

Emotional stress can also be a major causative factor in hair loss. Get plenty of sleep, and schedule times of rest and fun into your week. It’s also a great idea to incorporate therapeutic massage into your life as much as you can, along with other natural stress relievers. Massages not only helps reduce overall stress levels, but they also help increase your overall circulation, including blood flow to your scalp. Better blood flow to the scalp helps encourage hair growth.
Eat an Anti-Inflammatory Diet
Avoid eating inflammatory foods (grains, lectins, nightshades, etc.). When inflammation is reduced, the body heals more efficiently.

Benefits:
This synergistic combination of crystal infused essential oils provides the following benefits:
  • Spanish Rosemary -  One of the top essential oils when it comes to enhancing hair thickness and growth. Rosemary increases cellular metabolism that stimulates hair growth and revitalizes hair, adds shine and silkiness, and also benefits dry and flaky scalps. It also contains anti-fungal properties which protect the scalp from bacteria or fungi. In addition, Rosemary is known to calm the mind and lift your mood. Research published in 2015 even shows that rosemary oil appears to work as well as minoxidil, a conventional topical hair loss treatment.
  • Texas Cedarwood -  Stimulates the hair follicles by increasing circulation to the scalp. This can contribute to hair growth and slow the loss of hair. Cedarwood can help treat thinning hair and various types of alopecia.
  • Clary Sage - Promotes hair growth and stimulates the scalp. Three types of hair loss can be associated with high stress levels: telogen effluvium, trichotillomania (hair pulling) and alopecia areata. Clary Sage can help to relieve stress and reduce cortisol levels in the body, and thus serves as a natural remedy for stress-induced hair loss.
  • Thyme - Balances hormones and prevents hair loss. One of the stimulating components of thyme oil can help to improve the circulation in your body, which increases healing and blood flow to extremities and areas that need oxygenation.
  • Spikenard -  Spikenard oil is known for promoting hair growth, retaining its natural color and slowing down the process of graying.  A 2011 study published in Pharmacognosy Magazine measured spikenard oil’s ability to stimulate hair growth. The results showed a 30 percent reduction in the time it took for the hair to grow back, showing that spikenard can work as a hair loss remedy.
  • Tea tree - Tea tree oil can benefit your hair and scalp in a variety of ways. Tea Tree Oil is made up of over 100 chemical compounds. The most important of these are Terpinen-4, which is responsible for antiseptic action, and cineole, which can be responsible for skin irritation. Due to its terpinen-4 compounds, tea tree essential oil is a strong antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal agent that helps fight off any germs, bacteria and yeast that cause itchy scalp.  If you are losing hair due to clogged follicles or a scalp condition like dandruff, this oil can help remove the dead skin, rid your scalp of fungi and bacteria and promote healthy hair growth.
  • Peppermint - Has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Peppermint oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. It soothes an itchy scalp, keeps dandruff under control and prevents and treats head lice. Peppermint oil also helps to absorb excess oils on the scalp, moisturize a dry scalp and promote hair growth.

Crystal Properties:
Infused with Aventurine, Amethyst, Moonstone and Carnelian Crystals

  • Aventurine -  The most potent crystal from the Aventurine family, Green Aventurine prevents hair loss and dull texture too.   It calms nervousness, anger and irritation, and helps dissolve the everyday stress of a hectic lifestyle. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect, easing skin eruptions, such as acne, eczema, and rosacea, and soothes allergies and migraine headaches.
  • Amethyst -  Discoloration of hair is a common part of life for men and women today. Amethyst is a powerful stone that can revive your hair color and fill it with life. Amethyst can create crystal vibrations in your scalp and hair that renew cells and darken the hair color. A master healer, amethyst is known to heal the heart at the highest spiritual levels. Known as the “Stone of Spirit,” amethyst reflects the color of the crown chakra. Amethyst is said to calm, protect, and cleanse the spirit and shield you from negativity.
  • Moonstone -  A total healing stone for hair, moonstone is excellent to rejuvenate your scalp. Rubbing moonstone on your scalp gently generates crystal vibrations that boost the blood circulation to grow more hair. Massaging moonstone-infused oils on your scalp have a similar effect as it is the vibration from the stone that carries the healing energy.
  • Carnelian -  Has the power to absorb hair-specific nutrients and minerals for total revival.

How to Detox Your Body from Years of Personal Care Products

How to Detox from Chemicals in Personal Care Products

Of the 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetics, only 10 percent have been tested for safety. Manufacturers have dominion over testing the safety of their products but they do not have to reveal the testing data to the FDA. In my previous blog article, http://indigohealingoils.blogspot.com/2018/01/chemicals-applied-onto-your-skin-are.html, I explained how much the skin absorbs chemicals into the bloodstream. These toxins accumulate over the years and the risk of adverse effects multiplies. Chemicals are transmitted into the bloodstream in several ways: powders have the least absorption, while oily solutions or those designed to increase moisture allow more of the chemical to be absorbed.

There are 2 levels of exposure to harmful chemicals: acute harm and chronic exposure. Acute harm would mean you have an immediate reaction, such as a rash that's almost immediate, itching, burning, hair loss, etc. Long-term risks are more serious because many ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products have been linked to allergies, hormone disruption, infertility, weight gain and inflammatory responses, and even the growth of liver and kidney tumors. Adverse events from cosmetics and personal care products continue to rise.

Caution: If you have never detoxed before, go very slowly, one technique at a time and monitor how you feel, with a journal if possible. You may experience some detox symptoms such as rashes, itching, diarrhea, headaches or fatigue, but nothing major. The sauna and Epsom salt bath should be done no more than once a week unless your medical professional advises you to do more.
  • Dry Brushing - Dry brushing helps to unclog pores and excrete toxins that become trapped in the skin. The skin is typically brushed toward the heart, starting at the feet and hands and brushing toward the chest.
  • Epsom Salt Baths - A soothing Epsom salt bath is great for revitalizing our bodies with magnesium, a mineral that most of us are deficient in.
  • High-quality filter on your Shower (or home) - We absorb a larger amount of chloride, fluoride and other chemicals in our shower and tub through our skin than we do by drinking water. A whole house water filtration system that filters out fluoride and chloramines is best. This also benefits you with cooking and gardening.
  • Infrared Saunas - An incredible way to detox through your skin. An infrared sauna heats you from the inside out to remove heavy metals, mold and help with Lyme disease and die-off symptoms of detox.
  • Castor Oil Packs - This is an excellent treatment for your liver. It's best to do it at night before bed. Nighttime is the elimination phase when your liver and kidneys are working to cleanse the body of whatever was ingested throughout the day. A piece of wool (or cotton) flannel is saturated with castor oil and applied to the abdomen, with or without heat.
  • Oil Pulling - This is an effective technique to remove bacteria and heavy metals from your mouth in the morning. Oil pulling is a powerful detoxifying Ayurvedic technique that has recently become very popular as an alternative remedy for many different health ailments. Ayurveda recommends oil gargling to purify the entire system; as it maintains that each section of the tongue is connected to different organs, such as the kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine (similar to reflexology).
  • Rebounder - This is a fun activity (mini-trampoline) that stimulates your lymphatic system to drain and eliminate toxins.
  • Indigo Healing Oils Cellulite Scrub - Even if you don't have cellulite, this citrus vanilla chamomile scrub has pink Himalayan salt, organic sugar, and quality essential oils that not only exfoliate your skin but stimulate your lymphatic system to throw off toxins. It leaves your skin feeling baby smooth and as an added bonus, the essential oils lift your mood.

Early Menopause Linked to Daily Use of Personal Care Products, Plastics and Household items

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the average woman in the United States uses 12 personal care products a day, which contain on average, 168 different chemicals. While most men use fewer products, they’re still exposed to about 85 chemicals per day.

Women with higher levels of personal-care chemicals in their bodies experienced menopause two to four years earlier than women with lower levels.

Early menopause means more time for hot flashes, mood swings, and memory fog, and increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and breast cancer.

Repeated chemical exposures accumulate in the body over your lifetime. The EWG also tested teenagers and found that 16 different hormone-altering chemicals, including parabens and phthalates were detected in their urine. So, the exposure begins at a young age. Detoxing the body regularly and adding super nutrition can help, but not everyone takes the time do do that level of self-care.

ALL ingredients used for Indigo Healing Oils products are healthy and natural.

Chemical-Free, Gluten-Free, Cruelty-Free, Vegan*

* Some strict vegans avoid beeswax. We only use Organic Beeswax which is created naturally by healthy honeybees in a NON-GMO, pesticide free environment. It is included in body butters, salves and ointments. It conditions and heals the skin. It also offers anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral benefits making it helpful in treating skin irritation.

As Science Daily reported, in a study of more than 31,000 US women, researchers examined blood and urine levels for 111 mostly man-made chemicals that are commonly found in plastics, personal care products, and household items, as well as other chemicals that can contaminate air, water, and soil.

The chemicals tested included:
  • Dioxins/furans (industrial combustion byproducts)
  • Phthalates (found in plastics, common household items, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products including lotions, perfumes, makeup, nail polish, liquid soap, and hair spray)
  • Phytoestrogens (plant-derived estrogens)
  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs, coolants)
  • Phenolic derivatives (phenols, industrial pollutants)
  • Organophosphate pesticides
  • Surfactants
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (combustion products)
Women with higher levels of the chemicals in their bodies were found to experience menopause two to four years earlier than women with lower levels.
Fifteen chemicals in particular (including nine PCBs, three pesticides, two phthalates, and a furan) were significantly associated with early menopause, which suggests an early decline in ovarian function.

Meanwhile, in the report "Heavy Metal Hazard: The Health Risks of Hidden Heavy Metals in Face Makeup," Environmental Defense tested 49 different makeup items, including foundations, concealers, powders, blushes, mascaras, eye liners, eye shadows, lipsticks, and lip glosses. Their testing revealed serious heavy metal contamination in virtually all of the products:
  • 96 percent contained lead
  • 90 percent contained beryllium
  • 61 percent contained thallium
  • 51 percent contained cadmium
  • 20 percent contained arsenic
It was widely shared back in 2015 that women who use make-up on a daily basis can absorb almost 5 pounds of chemicals into their bodies each year. The number was argued by some, but the problem is real, even if it's less than 5 pounds. With the vast amount of chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis, we have to do what we can to minimize our risks of cancer and autoimmune illness, both of which have been increasing at a shocking rate.

Chemicals Applied onto Your Skin are Absorbed Straight into Your Blood Stream - 100% Absorption on Certain Body Areas

Nearly everything you use on your skin and scalp goes into your bloodstream. Putting chemical-laden products on your skin is even more harmful than ingesting them in food, because when you eat something the enzymes in your saliva and stomach help to break it down and eliminate it from your body.

When you put these chemicals on your skin, however, it is absorbed straight into your blood stream without filtering of any kind, so there's no protection against the toxin.

These toxins accumulate over the years and the risk of adverse effects multiplies. Chemicals are transmitted into the bloodstream in several ways: powders have the least absorption, while oily solutions or those designed to increase moisture allow more of the chemical to be absorbed.

Dr. Mercola reported that women who use make-up on a daily basis can absorb almost 5 pounds of chemicals into their bodies each year. For men, the amount is lesser but still of concern. An EWG 2004 consumer survey showed that while on average women use 12 personal care products daily, men use an average of six a day, which exposes them to more than 80 different ingredients. These toxic chemicals that your body absorbs annually from the use of toiletries and beauty products are largely going directly to your delicate organs.

ALL ingredients used for Indigo Healing Oils products are healthy and natural.
Chemical-Free, Gluten-Free, Cruelty-Free, Vegan

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health states that nearly 900 of the chemicals used in cosmetics are toxic. In fact, some products contain enhancers that allow ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. Studies have found health problems in people exposed to common fragrance and sunscreen ingredients, including increased risk of sperm damage, feminization of the male reproductive system and low birth weight in girls.

A study published in the American Journal of Public Health looked into the skin’s absorption rates of chemicals found in drinking water. It showed that the skin absorbed an average of 64% of total contaminant dosage.Other studies found the face to be several times more permeable than broad body surfaces and an absorption rate of 100% for underarms and genitalia. Another peer-reviewed study showed 100% absorption for fragrance ingredients.

Beware of "All Natural" Labeling - Read Ingredients

Many beauty, fragrance and skin care products online and in health food stores contain harmful ingredients and are not 100 percent natural, even though some of them use "All Natural" labeling. There are no federal or official guidelines for beauty products, so anyone can claim that such a product is natural or organic.

Some "organic" or "natural" beauty products contain only a single-digit percentage of organic ingredients. You can read the ingredients carefully but you won't know the amounts of the harmful chemicals that are present.

As an example, one well-known "natural" body lotion contains ingredients such as octyl methoxycinnamate, benzophenone-3, and methyl/propylparaben.
The EPA has linked methyl parabens to metabolic, developmental, hormonal, and neurological disorders, in addition to several forms of cancer.
Parabens may be listed as methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, propyl paraben, butyl paraben, isobutyl paraben or E216.

Every single ingredient used in the Indigo Healing Oils product line is healthy, natural and nourishing.

We are not 100% organic, but we do use as many organic ingredients as possible without drastically increasing prices.

Natural preservatives are safer and include anti-microbial and anti-fungal ingredients like grapefruit seed extract or antioxidant vitamins (A, C and E).

It is important to remember that nearly everything you use on your skin and scalp goes into your bloodstream, so make sure you read the labels!

And please try our wonderful healthy fragrances, scrubs, body butters and diffuser oils for good physical, emotional and mental health.

Essential Oils Work by Virtue of Inhalation And Skin Penetration

Essential Oils are not just nice smelling oils. They work as a natural medicine. In fact, essential oils are now used in medical hospitals. Aromatherapy has a variety of health benefits and is used in various settings. It is a safe effective and non-invasive way to treat a variety of medical conditions and can be used safely in combination with many other therapies.

Mood Boosting Benefits

One of the many benefits of essential oils is that they boost your mood. A large number of essential oils have mood boosting properties. This is how it works.

Scent molecules travel to the limbic system after inhalation which causes neurotransmitters to be released. Some of the possible neurotransmitters released include endorphins, serotonin, enkephaline, and noradrenaline. Each of these neurotransmitters has its own function in the body.

  • Endorphins: Reduce pain. They also help you feel a sense of well-being and create sexual feelings.
  • Serotonin: Keeps you calm and collected.
  • Enkephalins: Similar to endorphins but they don’t create sexual feelings. Gives you a mental high, reduces pain and helps you feel a sense of well-being.
  • Noradrenaline: Keeps you wide awake.

When the noradrenaline neurotransmitter is released, it causes you to feel happiness, euphoria or a sense of well-being. If you are depressed or grieving, the noradrenaline can temporarily release a burst of happiness, which helps you to remember what it was like to feel happy. Although this is temporary, it's helpful to remind your body and mind how that happiness feels. Then you can decide whether or not you want to continue feeling happy and take further steps toward that aim. If you’re feeling tense and the serotonin neurotransmitter is released, this makes you feel calm and relaxed.

Essential Oils Enter the Bloodstream Through the Skin

Essential oils that penetrate the skin act differently than the ones that are inhaled. Here is the process of what happens after an essential oil penetrates the skin via a carrier oil:

1. The small essential oil molecules penetrate the skin.
2. They enter hair follicles and pores.
3. They reach the capillaries.
4. They travel through the bloodstream to the organs they have an affinity for.
5. They are filtered through to the cells and body fluids.

Any molecules that are absorbed into the lungs directly will travel to the alveoli (of the lungs). The blood then carries the molecules to the heart and other parts of the body. The kidney and lungs process the molecule to break it down and excrete it via urine or sweat.

Essential Oils Stimulate Different Systems in the Body

Listed below are the systems in the body for which essential oils are beneficial. There are at least a dozen essential oils that benefit each of the following systems:
  • Endocrine System/Genito-Urinary System
  • Digestive System
  • Immune System
  • Nervous System
  • Respiratory System
  • Musculoskeletal System/Circulation
  • Skin
Each of these bodily systems are benefited in different ways by certain essential oils. Each system is broken down into different categories. I will give you just one example to illustrate.

The Digestive System (Example)

Here’s a list of the essential oils that stimulate the digestive system:
  • Antispasmodics:  chamomile, fennel, peppermint, cinnamon, orange, lemon balm
  • Hepatic: peppermint, lemon, lime, rosemary
  • Increase appetite: ginger, garlic, orange
  • Carminatives/stomachics:  fennel, chamomile, peppermint, mandarin, basil
  • Increase flow of bile:  peppermint, lavender, borneol
